The First Frame

With this being my first post I felt like I should start it with a "Hello".

Well with introductions out of the way I feel like we can get this ball rolling. My name is Alex Mowrey, I am 20 years young and a student at Slippery Rock University. When I am not trudging through mountains of snow or cowering away from the pounding rain under my umbrella I spend the remainder of my time pursing my Communications degree and working my rear-end off at my five jobs. Yeah, I said five jobs. I am the Photo Editor of The Rocket Newspaper, I am a Pride Guide for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, I am a second year Community Assistant, CA (an RA to every other university) in Building D, I am teachers assistant for one of my previous Comm classes and lastly I do a lot of work for our social media department and help to market the university through it. (I feel like I need a title for that job...the rest have a title.)

Abide by contrary belief I do get time to myself aside from all my jobs. And when I say I have time to myself that means I spend it in other clubs and organizations. If you couldn't tell I am crazy involved on campus. I am a brother of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and hold the Historian position in my chapter. I also am a Co-Chair for the Student Engagement Committee for the 125th Anniversary of Slippery Rock University.

Okay, enough about me.

New Media Journalism. A class that I knew nothing about walking into it and left the first day being really excited to get started. Going through the syllabus and the course objectives for the semester I cannot wait to do some of the work we have planned. I hope that by the time I leave this class I can have a better understanding on reporting online and using other forms of media besides a physical newspaper. I have a lot talent in photography and video so I think that I will be able to apply my skills to this class and do some really good work. I also feel like this class is going to get me started becoming a regular blogger. Still haven't decided if that is a good thing or not. Probably will start to spend a lot of my time doing this now too.

I spend a lot of time online, whether it be updating my Facebook or Twitter accounts or brushing up on the latest new on NBC News or the Huffington Post. My phone is always attached to my body so I am always getting updates and searching the web on it. Needless to say, without my phone, I am truly lost.

Well I feel like I've spilled out enough basic info about myself and about my interests in this course to end this first edition. Feel free to follow me on my blogging journey and ask me questions as you see fit. I'm pretty much an open book and happy to answer questions. It now begins!

(I want to try to end all my posts with a quote that I like. I am going to start this tradition with my favorite one of all time)
